One in Mercy is attempting to identify and describe various local Christian ministries in Hardin County and surrounding communities that serve through good works. Jesus told us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) We need your help in this task.

Local Ministries Need Your Help

The list and links on the right side of this webpage will identify organizations, congregations and individuals who are already meeting the needs of others. Many of them seek your assistance and depend on Christian volunteers in their ministries. If God calls you to a particular type of ministry, you may want to join those who are already engaged in the same work.

This site helps makes you aware of ministry opportunities in our area. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24 - 25)

Local People Need Our Help

We hope the website will be used as a resource tool for those who are trying to locate Christian ministries equipped to meet special needs. It should be used by any person in need of assistance. Additionally, you might help by referring someone to another ministry that may be able to serve them more efficiently or with a particular expertise.

One in Mercy desires to assist persons inside and outside the Church. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10)

Jesus Expects Christians to Help Others

We show our love to God by how we treat others. Jesus taught this truth through a powerful and compelling lesson regarding how He will separate the nations in final judgment. We do well to heed His warning.

31“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.

34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

41“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

44“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:31 - 46)

Jesus Christ Saved Us for His Own Sake

Jesus Christ did not save us only for our own sake. He saves to make us His possession, His body, and for His glory. The Holy Spirit inspired the writers of the New Testament regarding the importance of good works in the life of a Christian. Paul taught Titus that Christ redeemed us “for Himself, His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:14) “And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.” (Titus 3:14) “This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.” (Titus 3:8)

Paul also instructed Timothy and the Church in Ephesus about good works for Christ. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10) “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” (1 Timothy 6:17 - 19)

Showing Our Faith by Our Good Works

We are not suggesting that good works save you. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. However, true faith extends beyond an intellectual acceptance of truth. It is lived out through acts of love. James makes that clear. “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” (James 2:14 - 18)
