If Only I Believed…

January, 2010

If I believed that God heard my prayers for deliverance and revival would I join with those who cried out to Him?  If I really believed that God actually responds to those who humble themselves with fasting, would I participate? What’s the use in it? What good will it do?

If only I believed….

Forty weeks of prayer and fasting begins on Monday, January 25, 2010. I have no idea how many people will believe and attend. As long as two show up, I know God will be there. That’s enough.  I believe Jesus when He said, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:19 – 20). I believe it.

The battle belongs to God, not to me. I recall the words of Jonathan before he attacked a garrison of Philistines. He declared, “It may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.” (I Samuel 14:6) He and his armor bearer defeated the garrison because God delivered it into their hands. I believe it.

The battle before us will not be fought with human hands and our weapons are not according to the flesh. God will fight and prevail when we ask for help and gather like King Jehoshaphat and Judah. In response, God said, “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.” (II Chronicles 20:17). I believe it.

The task is overwhelming, the mission seems impossible through human eyes. May God cure me of such blindness. Do I have faith as big as a mustard seed? If only I believed….

His word says that every knee will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. His word says that His mercy endures forever. He saved us to bring glory to His name. His name shall be great among the nations whether I believe it or not. “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” (II Timothy 2:13).

To God be the Glory,
